New Philadelphia West Store

The Philadelphia West store was a “unique” store for Target, unlike their prototype stores. The project involved demolition of the 23-story Adams Mark Hotel. Extensive site work – including blasting of rock – followed to tailor the property and adjacent roadways for the new store and additional retail outparcels along City Avenue. Site improvements included all new utilities, curbing, sidewalks, parking lots, and landscaping. The new ± 167,000 SF Target also included a parking garage underneath half of the store.

Key Highlights:

Demolition of the 23-story Adams Mark Hotel on the site via mechanical demolition (wrecking ball) since the City of Philadelphia would not allow implosion.

Unique Target store (i.e., non-prototype) that included a parking garage under part of the store.

Subsurface rock that required blasting for removal.

Implementation of a Minority and Women Owned Business initiative and regular monitoring of compliance with goals established by the project team.
